This Saturday, the 8th of March, is International Women’s Day. IWD is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality. As the Assistant Headteacher at Carshalton High School for Girls responsible for Student Culture and Ethos, IWD holds a special significance.
Stepping into headship at an all-girls selective school has been both an immense privilege and a profound responsibility. It is a role that carries the weight of shaping the next generation of female leaders while navigating the complexities of leadership as a woman myself.
International Women’s Day is a time to celebrate progress, reflect on challenges, and recognise the resilience of women across all walks of life. My own journey—from qualifying as a Chartered Accountant while pregnant to leading as a Trust CFO—has been shaped by determination, support networks, and a commitment to balancing career ambitions with family life.

As the headteacher of a girls' grammar school, I am privileged to witness the transformation of young girls into confident, independent women ready to take on the world.
