International Women’s Day is a moment to reflect on the achievements of women worldwide and to celebrate the empowerment of the next generation. As the headteacher of a girls' grammar school, I am privileged to witness the transformation of young girls into confident, independent women ready to take on the world.
Having attended a girls’ school myself, I know first-hand the unique and empowering experience it offers. It was a place where my aspirations were nurtured, my voice was valued, and I was surrounded by strong female role models. That experience shaped who I am today, and I see the same journey unfolding for my students every day.
I take immense pride in seeing our students grow into young women who are unafraid to challenge, lead, and innovate. They excel academically, but more importantly, they develop the courage, curiosity and compassion, our school values, that will serve them well in life. Watching them break barriers, whether in STEM, the arts, business, or leadership, fills me with immense pride, and if they go on to study Geography, as I did, I feel even more excited!
Some of the most rewarding moments in my career have been seeing former students go on to achieve great things. From teachers, doctors and engineers to writers and entrepreneurs, they carry the values and confidence they built here into the world. Knowing that our school played a role in their success is incredibly fulfilling.
On this International Women’s Day, I celebrate not only the achievements of the women who have come before us but also the potential of the young women in our school today. They are the future, and I have no doubt they will make a profound impact on the world.
To all our students—keep striving, keep believing, and keep breaking boundaries. The world is yours to shape, and I know you will.
